Taper thread end

In this pic, I am preparing my thread by tapering the ends, which will then be waxed (pic 6), which makes it easier to thread the needle (pic 7), and also makes a smooth layer to go through the leather.

Thread the needle, then pierce the body of the thread with the needle, pulling it down. This locks the thread onto the needle.

Here you will see the leather clamped in the jaws of Ol Stitchinhorse and me placing the holes with the stabbing awl. Unfortunately, due to the way I hold the awl, it is difficult to see it in my hand.
